Punxsutawney Phil is the most famous groundhog in the world. One year over 40,000 people came to see Punxsutawney Phil. There are more than 35 famous groundhogs that are used on groundhogs day across the country. The holiday began in Pennsylvania and was celebrated in the 18th and 19th century.
If the ground hog sees its shadow there are six more weeks of winter. If a groundhog does not see its shadow there are not six more weeks of winter. Almost the whole U.S. celebrates Groundhogs Day. They make such big deal about it people make speeches and even have parties.
Next to the Easter bunny he is the most celebrated animal in the world. I even have my own questions like… Why did they choose the groundhog to chose what day spring started?
